2010 Fall Tax Conference Day #1
Day one of the 2010 Fall Tax Conference was a great success.
To start the day Beverly Gossage of HSA Benefit Consulting discussed the benefits of individuals and businesses using HSA plans. She pointed out that besides saving money over traditional health insurance policies, the public can greatly limit financial exposure in the case of extreme sickness. Next, Joe Marcbein, as always, did an excellent job outlining the latest federal tax legislation passed as well as outstanding tax issues not yet addressed in Washington. Pamela Zschoche, CFP followed up with a discussion of Identity Theft Protection for Businesses. She provided some great tips to protect your client and firm information. After lunch Harla J Kwiatec of Rubin Brown outlined some of the complex issues surrounding state tax Nexus. It's a sometimes overlooked topic that tax preparers should address with clients with out-of-state sales. And, finally Joe Giljum closed the day with an excellent review of significant cases and rulings of the past year.
Dennis Pettet has put together a great conference once again held at the Marriott Courtyard in Columbia. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the food here is amazing. We followed up Day #1 with the usual happy hour gathering before dinner. It gave many of the tax preparers a chance to catch up and compare notes among practices.
Day #2 starts at 8am Friday. If you didn't have a chance to register for this year's tax conference be sure to get on our mailing list by contacting Dennis so you can receive reminders for future seminars.
